About the Author
GONZALO CAMARILLO is the Principal Systems Expert with the Advanced Signaling Research Lab of Ericsson in Helsinki, Finland. An active participant in the IETF's SIP Working Group since its inception, he co-authored several contributions on SIP-related matters. He is also a frequent speaker at VoIP conferences and the Ericsson representative in the SIP Forum. He received an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid and another M.Sc. degree, also in Electrical Engineering, from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He is continuing his studies as a Ph.D candidate at Helsinki University of Technology.

The best SIP book for beginners

This is the best book for who wants to know about SIP initially, especially on what SIP can do conceptually. This book is feasible for everyone that includes executives, managers and engineers. This book also provides very good related information in the Internet Forum.

Well written for absolute beginners

This is a great book for absolute beginners. If you have already read the SIP RFC(s) then this book is clearly not for you, on the other hand if you are an engineer beginning to learn SIP then this could provide a great introduction.

The first few chapters are not about SIP but about telecom, VoIP in general and IETF process. I found that quite useful too.

After having read this book you will be able to understand RFC 3261 much better. This is a fast read, I finished this book in a day when I read it several years ago. This could also be a whirlwind refresher for someone who had once worked on SIP but now wants to brush up for a sales meeting tommorow.

Buy, but double check first that this is what you are looking for

Good book on SIP. Bought it to expand our knowledge of SIP in an Asterisk enviroment.

The initial introduction is a bit too-long. I think that when you buy a book on SIP, you already know IP telephony and alikes works.

Before buying, keep in mind that the book is on SIP, generally speaking, and SIP is used on lots of places, not only on Internet/IP telephony.

About the Author

Kirk D. Hagen is a professor of engineering at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, where he has taught since 1993. He did his undergraduate work in physics and earned his PhD in mechanical engineering at the University of Utah. His areas of specialization are thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. Introduction to Renewable Energy for Engineers is his fourth book. He is also the author of Heat Transfer with Applications, Heat Transfer Solutions: Worked Problems to Supplement a First Course in Engineering Heat Transfer, andIntroduction to Engineering Analysis.

Strong rhetoric meets deep structure

If there was a book to introduce graduate students of architecture, art history and modern humanist theory, this is it. With clear, dictated arguments and strong logical arrangement of sources and topics, it invites the reader to invest in the content. It presumes much, however, about the extent of knowledge concerning semiotics from its readers. It is a sustained argument in several phases--citing Ernst Cassirer, Le Corbusier, Jakob Johann von Uexkull, Siegfried Giedion Joseph Rykwert, Merleau-Ponty and others--and at once maintains a fluidity of discourse and relentless brutality of presentation and refutation. I gave it one star less than perfect because, like all publications from MIT Press and Routeledge it is a very abbreviated account of something that should be longer, often combining words that are difficult in themselves with a syntax that demands their lucidity. I like pentasyllabic words and erstwhile prefixes, but sometimes enough is enough. But it is not as bad as Deleuze and Guattari.

Excellent bibliographic and scholarly references.

Buy it only if seriously interested in the topics.

At times interesting but ultimately confusing fantasy explination of the mad monk's life.

Considering I’ve read a graphic novel about a Japanese monk from hundreds of years ago, the story of the legendary Russian mystic doesn’t seem nearly as weird in comparison.
Someone kills a Hillary Clinton clone at a speech only to have Rasputin bring her back to life as he talks about watching his father die in the snow. A reporter saw him do it and wants to know how it happened, and the story switches between the present and his telling of how he became the way he is.
Which is incredibly confusing. I’ve done a bunch of research on Rasputin, and if this is how he managed to survive all those assassination attempts. . . hell, it’s as good as any other. But I still didn’t understand how it worked, and I doubt the reporter did either. There appears to be plenty of clues in the narrative, they just didn’t mesh. At one point it’s said he saved JFK after he was shot, making this an alternate universe, but I didn’t understand what that had to do with the story.
What really saves it is the humor; there’s one point where he actually says, “Be quiet, ghost.” Yeah, that’ll work.
I’m not a fan of the artwork; too angular. However, props to the depiction of Maria, who is the cutest little blonde girl I’ve ever seen drawn. The snow fairy—I doubt that’s what it was but can find no other way to describe it—is also beautifully done.
Bonus—script, complete with links and spelling mistakes; quotes, bios.
The final grade below is more for the story than the artwork, although it was damned confusing at times.

A new look at one of history’s “villains”

Not having read Volume 1, this was a bit of a mystery at first. This Rasputin travels through history, manipulating circumstances and using healing powers for his own benefit, leaving him accompanied by the ghosts of those that he has killed as her “enjoys” eternal life. He recounts parts of his life to a freelance journalist.

Cartoon-type illustrations work well here, reminiscent of the French “bande dessinée” style and there’s plenty of bloodshed. Perhaps a bit brief when it comes to plot. However a good yarn, well recommended.

A sloppy follow-up to a great first volume. This volume answers the question what happened to Rasputin after he was killed by his friends in 1916. It starts out in our time and stays there for pretty much the first issue. I found this very confusing. The stuff with JFK was just dumb. Why change history if you don't show the impact of that change? Riley Rossmo is an enigma. His art can be frustratingly bad and great on the same page.

probably a pretty good book

Overall, probably a pretty good book, however there are a lot of mistakes. Most are just sentences repeated twice in the same paragraph or a tip in the wrong section. Some terms that are on the exam are not addressed at all in the book. I went to both his website and publisher's website, but there are no corrections on this book in the errata section.

This book is a collection of essays written by T. M. Scanlon between 1969 and 1999 to examine the standards for justifying and appraising social and political institutions. T. M. Scanlon is Alford Professor of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy, and Civil Polity at Harvard University.

Scanlon is methodical and thorough in his arguments and this is an exceptionally well-written book. He presents all sides of each issue and convincingly eliminates those that do not support his conclusion. The topics cover those anticipated from political philosophy, including freedom of expression, rights, due process, contractualism, value, quality of life, punishment and law, promises and contracts, and the diversity of objections to inequality.

Because Scanlon's essays are well written, the arguments are easily followed. The reader has an opportunity for reinforcing or for modifying his or her own beliefs regarding the concepts discussed. The issues are all important and this book is highly recommended for scholars and for anyone who considers him or herself to be a philosopher.

Although he is less well-known to the general public than John Rawls or Ronald Dworkin, T.M. Scanlon may be held in even higher esteem by political philosophers working within the analytic tradition. This collection of essays in political philosophy includes five of major importance: "A Theory of Freedom of Expression," "Preference and Urgency," "Rights, Goals, and Fairness," "Contractualism and Utilitarianism," and "The Diversity of Objections to Inequality."
