I highly suggest this book. It is a well written fun read about being heart centered.

Feelings are universal. Everyone has feelings. Not everyone is aware of their feelings. Claude Steiner's book entitled Intelligence with a Heart' uncovers the importance of looking at our feelings in an uplifting heartfelt way. It is a powerful heart centered read and has given me a boost as I try to examine the place of feelings in my life and how to illustrate and describe them. I hope to include some of Dr. Steiner's ground breaking ideas in my own writing. His series of vignettes walks us through real life interchanges and how our feelings can propel them in different directions. He focuses on the power of our feelings especially love. Love is a positive place for power to rest. I for one whole heartedly support that! Nowadays so many people talk about cognitive behaviorism. Gone it seems are the days of transactional analysis and 'strokes'. The vocabulary of this paradigm may have changed, but the reality of the world revolution each one of us can create through the power of love will never go away. Please read this. There are some kernals of truth that must be paid forward.
As I continue to write about Emotatudes for children I constantly imagine what our feelings look, smell, taste, and move like. Dr. Steiner's book helped me as I have been delving deeply into my emotional life. It has sent me on a world search for what makes us human. How are we all alike? It is my belief that every human on the planet experiences feelings. Perhaps our cultural constructs paint them. Rarely do we share them openly for everyone to see.
Maybe if we start looking within and honoring our inner space we will find how connected we are. Maybe then we will feel safe enough to share our own feelings. It is so interesting that I painted Kanipshuns in little swirls as they move about in and out of our raging feelings that are too often pent up and not dealt with. Then later I read an account of someone describing their very own angry hurt feelings as swirling about in her head. Have studies been done about this? Are emotions electrical impulses in our brains? Do different emotions move differently? We are all vibratory beings. Maybe understanding our Emotatudes and the way they resonate in our lives will help us all live more fulfilled happy lives.

Wanting More!!!

After reading all three books, I fell in love with story and characters! This series stands out to me because the author uses real life situations and believable relationships between all the characters making the story more relatable to the reader. She gives you the ups and downs that comes with any relationship weather it be with ex's, friends or a new romance. The author does a wonderful job describing the main characters pasts so the reader understands the present romance between the characters. She gives their romance normalcy that you can relate to but with a fairytale twist. It defiantly made me wanting more of Liam but I know all good things have to come to an end. I have and will recommend this series of books to others.

I enjoyed this book. But I can't help but feel like there's more to it. I mean Addison married Liam. But she went and invited his parents to the wedding. Which they showed up for. I don't wanna be wanna those readers that's like you have to write a 4th book. But you could. What ever happened to Kristina and Dave? Lol. I'm looking forward to checking out some more books from Melissa Toppen.

Good ending to a series

Overall I enjoyed the series. They were engaging and the story was well told. You truly get to know Addison and Liam through out the series.

By book three it all seems to be a little dramatic for my liking. Addison is quick to leave Liam over every argument they have. Li never stops her, then begs for forgiveness and she takes him back.

Outside of the dramatics I loved the way everything wrapped up. You'll never hear my complain about a happy ever after.

The cliffhanger in book two is quickly resolved in the beginning of book three and thank goodness for that.

Great illustrated guide for older children

Not only a great childrens book but also one of the best books written by grandmaster Raymond Keene (who has written more than 100). He seems to have picked the eyes out of the best of his previous works and summarised them in an easy to understand guide that appeals to kids and adult beginners.

As the other reviewer says its many many illustrations are terrific and designed to catch the eye encouraging kids (and adults)to read on. Almost every page has at least one picture or chess board shot.

It starts with an interesting history of the game and ends with biographies of world champions, discussion of computer chess and resources for further learning about chess. In between it covers the basics of pieces and how they move, and has quite comprehensive sectiions on openings, the middlegame, and endgame/checkmates.

It goes into detail that is a welcome surprise for a childrens guide. For example he covers the "more difficult" checkmate by knight and bishop briefly in an easy to understand illustrated way when adult books on checkmate endings written by so called experts avoid discussing at all! So Ray Keene really know what he is talking about and explains it simply and well.

As well as the many illustrations, there are plenty of summary boxes, and quizzes with answers at each step of the book. There are also several complete classic games which are used to explain key concepts. This makes learning easy and it proceeds in simple steps from basic to progressively more complex concepts.

The edition I have is from the 1980s which you might think makes it out of date. But for a beginner to intermediate it is still one of the best books to learn from particularly for children. I rate this as a classic childrens chess book which will be hard to equal. (A worthy and up to date competitor is the Usborne Complete Internet Chess Book (see my review)). This book by Ray Keene is more suitable for older children as it is more wordy and goes into more detail for more difficult concepts (eg the bishop and knight checkmate mentioned above)

In short a great book. You may need to buy it second hand or search the net for a copy as it may not be readily available. But it will be well worth the effort to get it and enjoy every page.

A must-read book for anyone who is interested in the history of Pakistan, a country with 180+million citizens located in a very strategic and exceptionally volatile part of the globe. Pakistan has the fourth largest army in the world that is armed with nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. It has been at war with India, a country several times bigger that is also armed with nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, since their mutual birth from the womb of British India in 1947. This book is based on a very detailed reading of the writings of Pakistani army officers, both serving and retired, and on numerous interviews with key decision makers in the Pakistani army. Spoiler alert: It is a very pessimistic book, probably the most pessimistic one of the several books that have been published about Pakistan in the past decade and a half. She makes the pessimistic views that I expressed in my book sound optimistic ("Rethinking the National Security of Pakistan: The Price of Strategic Myopia," Ashgate Publishing, 2003). The book seems to be largely written for policy makers in US and India. Perhaps the author has given up on Pakistan. I could not find any recommendations for Pakistani policy makers. About the Author
Erin is a former 2x Ms Figure Olympia and Junior All-American track athlete. Her love for training started at a very young age while running alongside her horses. She earned an academic scholarship to attend the University of Florida, and was invited to walk on the varsity track team. Once on the team, she earned an athletic scholarship and Jr. All-American status in the high jump. She was the first Lady Gator to compete in the indoor pentathlon. After college, she missed the Olympic Qualifying Standard by 3cm with a jump of 5’11”. This prompted her to try figure competitions. She earned Pro status by winning the Overall Figure Championship at the 2008 NPC Nationals. In 2010, she won her first Figure Olympia Champion title. Between 2008 and 2010, she overcame various roadblocks and hardships to win the biggest contest in bodybuilding. She accomplished this with no coach or trainer, and as a lifetime natural athlete. She currently speaks to high school athletes about priorities, goal-setting, visualization, and mindset. In addition to speaking, she runs seminars geared toward training, living a healthy lifestyle, and improving self-esteem. “I am motivated to be better than my previous best,” she says. “I’m also motivated by the people I meet along the way. It’s just a big fitness family, and to be able to inspire and motivate others keeps me going. Ultimately, I want to teach people how to find their own unique greatness. I also want to show them that success in the gym translates to confidence and success in all other aspects of life.”

Good Book on Fitness and Muscle Building

I really like Erin Stern and I had been hoping that she would get around to writing a book imparting her knowledge of fitness and muscle building, and thankfully she did. Her book offers good advice on workouts, nutrition, and motivation. The only thing that would have made this book better for me would have been if she had included a chapter on sports supplements that she thinks are worthwhile. Still, even without this info, Erin's book is good for those that are interested in improving their fitness and health.

From her articles to her online videos, she is highly informative and presents her advice in such a down to earth, simple manner, that instantly wins you over. Her new book is no different. John Newton - (1725-1807), Evangelical divine and hymn writer
Newton was born in London July 24, 1725, the son of a commander of a merchant ship which sailed the Mediterranean. When John was eleven, he went to sea with his father and made six voyages with him before the elder Newton retired. In 1744 John was impressed into service on a man-of-war, the H. M. S. Harwich. Finding conditions on board intolerable, he deserted but was soon recaptured and publicly flogged and demoted from midshipman to common seaman.

Finally at his own request he was exchanged into service on a slave ship, which took him to the coast of Sierra Leone. He then became the servant of a slave trader and was brutally abused. Early in 1748 he was rescued by a sea captain who had known John's father. John Newton ultimately became captain of his own ship, one which plied the slave trade.

Although he had had some early religious instruction from his mother, who had died when he was a child, he had long since given up any religious convictions. However, on a homeward voyage, while he was attempting to steer the ship through a violent storm, he experienced what he was to refer to later as his "great deliverance." He recorded in his journal that when all seemed lost and the ship would surely sink, he exclaimed, "Lord, have mercy upon us." Later in his cabin he reflected on what he had said and began to believe that God had addressed him through the storm and that grace had begun to work for him.
