Review of the Solar System

This is the last of Lt. Col. Powell's books of theosophy. And it is the most technical in terms of the material with which it treats.

Powell summarizes the plan of the solar system (primarily the planet population) from the standpoint of Ancient Wisdom. He pulls from a vast array of works and culminates a precis (350 pp. worth) of such topics as: the formation of the human race; the various divisions of the human race (e.g. Lemurian and Atlantean); the evolution of the human race; the assistance to the human race from more evolved beings (e.g. the Lords of Venus); as well as the way that we as human beings in the current planetary scheme evolution can help speed the process of development for our race.

As with all of Powell's books, this one is eminently readable and is punctuated with diagrams that help the reader to simplify fairly technical concepts.

Excellent addition to The Secret Doctrine

A great book for all of you who are into New Age and history/future of mankind.
When I started to read this book, I didn't even know about the Secret Doctrine. Of course, after finishing it, I read the H.P.B classic... The Solar System is an excellent complementary reading, when it comes to the mavantara/pralaya cycles, rounds, races, etc... There's some pictures showing the cycles that make easy to understand how our solar system works.
After all, is a must read.

A good starting point for those who are hypothyroid, or who think they are.

This book is a very good starting point for the hypothyroid. Most of the book is about patient experiences of hypothyroid and each patient's approach to optimum health.

The book is written with the experiences of those afflicted with this very common medical condition, many of whom are now patient advocates. The startling similarities of these patients is the wide variety of treatments that are effective (no one treatment works for everyone) but the wide variety of doctor expertise ranging from experience and patient-centered treatment, to gross hubris and ineptitude bordering on malpractice.

The basics of the condition are outlined here, including dramatic photos of the author.

Not included, however, is the use of various supplements, nutritional advice and adrenal support that are vital to wellness with hypothyroidism. For this, I also recommend, "Stop the Thyroid Madness," by Janie Bowthorpe.

A Helpful Book

This book is WONDERFULLY written and perfect for those who suffer from hypothyroidism but aren't seeing results or getting the help they need.
I'm still unsure whether or not my illness is severe Adrenal Fatigue from prolonged sleep deprivation or Hypothyroidism but this book certainly comforts me. It gives you hope and shows you how you can recover and how to be as pro-active as possible. Let's face it, we already know that as a patient, we have to be our own advocate for our health. We have to research, we have to seek out help and we have to demand doctors and tests to help us recover. This has been such a long and exhausting road for me but after finding the correct supplements on my own, things seem to be slightly improved. I just hope i'll fully get my life back, but for now I'll just have to take it one step at a time. Next step is incorporating meditation and going back to my holistic dr.

It was good. In short, she explains the frustration many people suffer with doctors that just want to follow the TSH test and not the symptoms, like she did. She felt better by simply taking a combination of T4 and T3. I'm going to ask my doctor if I can do it too because certainly taking only T4 hasn't improved my hypothyroid symptoms.

This is a "thinking drummer's book" - filled with challenging ways to spread the fundamental rudiments across a jazz drum kit. Very simple, powerful and straight to the point...

It's amazing how such a small book packs such a big punch. At least for those of us still searching for our true purpose in life. The ideas in this book are straight to the core. The author obviously speaks from life experiences and not from fictional ideas just to make a quick buck. I've been searching for sometime for this kind of motivation and ideas on how to become more successful. The whole concept of the book is a wake up call, makes you think and rethink your current strategies. Look forward to doing some more reading, will be following Secret Entourage closely, their content is definitely some of the best I've seen in quite sometime.

I really liked the ideas this book puts out there, it talks directly about people's perspectives on making it and the issues that we all face - mainly with our own ways of finding excuses when we try to achieve something. Reading it at one sitting def made an impact on me, I'm already keen to the ideas in this book, but it still inspired me, specially because it verbalized everything I already know but wasn't necessarily thinking about or doing anything about. Additionally what I learned is to move forward, which we all know how to do but we can always use a push and a shove in the right direction - reading this has made me just a little more focused on what I need to do... it's def. a book that causes self reflection, which can bring about a lot of good things.

Learned about my fears

I'll begin by saying that I never leave reviews like this unless I feel the need to based on quality of product.

I thought I was fearless. I picked up this book for its punch line of "changing your mindset" because I always believed that success starts with tweaking the way you look at everything. To my surprise this book had taught me much more than was anticipated. The book made me realize that even though I thought I was fearless, I was plagued everyday by fears I had not recognized as fears! I suggest you pick up the book even if only for its ability to allow you to analyze yourself and identify the fears that are holding you back.

They show a picture of the book I needed to order but all I received was the resource guide. The 2 are supposed to be together but now I have to go and find the actual book (the one shown in the picture) elsewhere.

The Bible: Educational Assessment of Children

Sattler is one of the guru in educational psychology. Assessments are the everyday tools in this field. This is one of several volumes (this volume deals with cognitive assessments and the other with emotional assessments) that are a must for any person involved in academic, emotional, cognitive, psychological and processing evaluations of children. I have two sets of these books one at home and the other in the office. These books are used in many universities and what I read page to page when I was getting my masters and doctorate. I use these books regularly when writing reports or reviewing a concept. If you are a professional in the field and work with children learning this set is the one to get.

Good resource, not reader friendly

If you are a school psychologist or school psychology student, this text is a great resource to have on your shelf. However, the text is not reader friendly. I am a graduate student in a school psych program, and my classmates and I used to joke about reading sattler to help us fall asleep at night. I kept my copy because it has a lot of useful information, but it is pretty dense.

Grade 5-8-Through the words and memories of Jack Mandelbaum, Warren presents a harrowing account of a Jewish boy's experience in Nazi prison camps. Mandelbaum had lived a comfortable life with his family in Gdynia, Poland, until the German invasion forced them to flee to a relative's village in 1939. Later, when the Jews were sent to concentration camps, the 12-year-old became separated from the rest of his family and wound up in the Blechhammer camp. By describing events through the boy's voice, the author does an excellent job of letting his words carry the power of the story. She avoids historical analysis, sticking to Mandelbaum's experiences, and brings readers into the nightmarish world of the concentration camp with a strong feeling of immediacy. As with many stories of great suffering, some of the minor details, such as risking death to steal a jar of marmalade, deliver the most impact. Besides the physical hardship, Warren conveys how frustrating and confusing it was for a child in such an environment. Once liberated, the young man learned the sad fate of his family and as he ironically observed, had he known his parents and siblings would not survive, he might not have struggled so hard to live himself. Black-and-white contemporary photographs illustrate the book. This story works as an introduction to the Holocaust and will also interest readers of Lila Perl's Four Perfect Pebbles (Greenwillow, 1996), Anne Frank's diary, and other works on the period.

Simply told, Warren's powerful story blends the personal testimony of Holocaust survivor Jack Mandelbaum with the history of his time, documented by stirring photos from the archives of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Mandelbaum was 12 when the Nazis came to Poland in 1939. At first the thought of war was "thrilling." Then he saw his prosperous, happy home torn apart, and he spent three years as a teenager in the death camps in Germany, where he survived by a combination of courage, friendship, and luck. Warren, who never knew any Jews when she was growing up in a small Nebraska town, brings both passion and the distance of the outsider to the story. True to Mandelbaum's youthful viewpoint, she lets the story unfold slowly so readers don't know until the end what happened to Jack's mother and brother after they were separated, or whether his friends survived. The combination of Mandelbaum's experience and Warren's reporting of the whole picture makes this an excellent introduction for readers who don't know much about the history. There's only one false note. Unlike Anita Lobel's No Pretty Pictures (1998) and many other personal accounts, there's a radiant innocence here: everything "before" was blissful ("It was a lovely life"), and, even in the camps, Jack never has an ugly thought. wonderful and disturbing book

It's very hard for me to read anything about the Holocaust but I needed to make sure this book was appropriate for my young daughter. I try to keep her protected from the worlds horrors as much as possible since she's only 10 but she wanted to read this book. It is entirely appropriate for her age and I'm glad she'll know about the atrocities that happened so long ago and I hope as she grows up she'll fight for human rights.
