They show a picture of the book I needed to order but all I received was the resource guide. The 2 are supposed to be together but now I have to go and find the actual book (the one shown in the picture) elsewhere.

The Bible: Educational Assessment of Children

Sattler is one of the guru in educational psychology. Assessments are the everyday tools in this field. This is one of several volumes (this volume deals with cognitive assessments and the other with emotional assessments) that are a must for any person involved in academic, emotional, cognitive, psychological and processing evaluations of children. I have two sets of these books one at home and the other in the office. These books are used in many universities and what I read page to page when I was getting my masters and doctorate. I use these books regularly when writing reports or reviewing a concept. If you are a professional in the field and work with children learning this set is the one to get.

Good resource, not reader friendly

If you are a school psychologist or school psychology student, this text is a great resource to have on your shelf. However, the text is not reader friendly. I am a graduate student in a school psych program, and my classmates and I used to joke about reading sattler to help us fall asleep at night. I kept my copy because it has a lot of useful information, but it is pretty dense.

Grade 5-8-Through the words and memories of Jack Mandelbaum, Warren presents a harrowing account of a Jewish boy's experience in Nazi prison camps. Mandelbaum had lived a comfortable life with his family in Gdynia, Poland, until the German invasion forced them to flee to a relative's village in 1939. Later, when the Jews were sent to concentration camps, the 12-year-old became separated from the rest of his family and wound up in the Blechhammer camp. By describing events through the boy's voice, the author does an excellent job of letting his words carry the power of the story. She avoids historical analysis, sticking to Mandelbaum's experiences, and brings readers into the nightmarish world of the concentration camp with a strong feeling of immediacy. As with many stories of great suffering, some of the minor details, such as risking death to steal a jar of marmalade, deliver the most impact. Besides the physical hardship, Warren conveys how frustrating and confusing it was for a child in such an environment. Once liberated, the young man learned the sad fate of his family and as he ironically observed, had he known his parents and siblings would not survive, he might not have struggled so hard to live himself. Black-and-white contemporary photographs illustrate the book. This story works as an introduction to the Holocaust and will also interest readers of Lila Perl's Four Perfect Pebbles (Greenwillow, 1996), Anne Frank's diary, and other works on the period.

Simply told, Warren's powerful story blends the personal testimony of Holocaust survivor Jack Mandelbaum with the history of his time, documented by stirring photos from the archives of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Mandelbaum was 12 when the Nazis came to Poland in 1939. At first the thought of war was "thrilling." Then he saw his prosperous, happy home torn apart, and he spent three years as a teenager in the death camps in Germany, where he survived by a combination of courage, friendship, and luck. Warren, who never knew any Jews when she was growing up in a small Nebraska town, brings both passion and the distance of the outsider to the story. True to Mandelbaum's youthful viewpoint, she lets the story unfold slowly so readers don't know until the end what happened to Jack's mother and brother after they were separated, or whether his friends survived. The combination of Mandelbaum's experience and Warren's reporting of the whole picture makes this an excellent introduction for readers who don't know much about the history. There's only one false note. Unlike Anita Lobel's No Pretty Pictures (1998) and many other personal accounts, there's a radiant innocence here: everything "before" was blissful ("It was a lovely life"), and, even in the camps, Jack never has an ugly thought. wonderful and disturbing book

It's very hard for me to read anything about the Holocaust but I needed to make sure this book was appropriate for my young daughter. I try to keep her protected from the worlds horrors as much as possible since she's only 10 but she wanted to read this book. It is entirely appropriate for her age and I'm glad she'll know about the atrocities that happened so long ago and I hope as she grows up she'll fight for human rights.

Exciting but not for everyone

I really enjoyed the story of this book. The twists, turns, and "oh my god" moments made this an interesting read. Although there are many "taboo" issues in this writing, I found it an exciting story line. The twist at the end had me stunned! Now all the author needs to do is proof read for typos more - although that in no way took away for the story being told. I can't wait for more works from Zev.

Brutally Erotic and Ultimate Absolution

Holy. Hell. F*ck. Me. Forgive-me-bless-me-do-something-father-for-I-have-f'ing-sinned-by-all-definitions-reading-this-hypnotic-crap.

A brutally-erotic-suspenseful-sort-of-thriller brimming w/treachery, betrayal, abuse, lust, and ultimate absolution.

Somewhat fascinating if you're of a psych/behavior-studious persuasion.

But be forewarned..it's unapologetically-unfiltered-unromanticized-masculinized erotic material and some will undoubtedly find the content offensive which includes but is not limited to: Brother/brother incest, father/son incest, violently-abusive-dub-con-sexual material, blackmail-homophobic-bullying, priest/altar boy/parishioner sexual relations, additional clergy fu*king--er-sexual relations, questionable hygienic kink and practices, murder, suicide, (& I just know there's more crap I'm forgetting).

Although the story is awash in primitive carnality..there is still this sort-of lyrical introspection, life-affirming growth, a spiritual evolution enveloping the content that makes a very seductive story.

(Side-Note) I purchased this via Amazon @$2.99. It was once 'free online fiction,' and it's a very generous-lengthed story. However, the published end-product still contains numerous spelling/typos (common review complaint). (For me) this doesn't/didn't necessarily negatively impact the story, but I was quickly able to discern the correct words being communicated. Understandably, others might not w/potential negative implications. My rating is for my appreciationt of the unique content and storyline..edits be damned. (less).

Not bad, but not that good either

This story definitely fell short of a 5-starer for me. It had some taboo factors going on. Concerning incest, with brother/brother sex, to father/son sex to priest sex. And those moments were definitely hot! This story in a nutshell is basically about one wild, hot & crazy summer with some monks at a mission in Napa Valley. I liked the hot sexual moments & the mysterious suspenseful parts in here. Those parts alone saved the story! But the book as a whole didn't fully keep my attention.

The first half felt like it drags a bit on & on. I felt like I was ready for it to end around 60%. Also the writing style of it was a bit stuffy & old fashioned. Needed more of a modern contemporary feel to it. I didn't fully connect because of that. And then how so many points were confusing. Basically the first half of the book you think a certain character is who they say they are, when its this whole faking identity thing that's supposed to add a twist. But it just confused me trying to remember who is who. And there's several characters that do this. And that threw me off rather then engaging me into it further.

I don't have much more to say about this one except its a bit stuffy & uppity with the language. Also had some racism factors that I didn't like calling hispanics & indians racial slurs.

This one certainly isn't for the faint of heart. And the epilogue is just sad. So many people die in it. Certainly wouldn't read this again. Its not a bad book. But its not that good either.
