About the Author
Robert M. Monczka, Ph.D., is the former Distinguished Research Professor of Supply Chain Management in the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and Professor Emeritus at the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management, Michigan State University. He also served as director of Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain Strategy Research at CAPS Research, where he led initiatives focused on sourcing and supply strategy innovation, development, and implementation. A frequent speaker at professional meetings, Dr. Monczka has published more than 200 books and articles. He has consulted worldwide with leading companies in the Fortune 100 and has received two National Science Foundation grants to study supply strategy.

Robert B. Handfield, Ph.D., is Bank of America University Distinguished Professor of Supply Chain Management in the College of Management at North Carolina State University. He also is Co-Director of the Supply Chain Resource Cooperative (http:// scrc.ncsu.edu). Dr. Handfield serves as Consulting Editor of the Journal of Operations Management and is on the editorial board of several leading academic journals. His research focuses on strategic sourcing, supply market intelligence, supplier relationship management, and sourcing overseas. Larry C. Giunipero, Ph.D., CPSM, CPM, is Professor of Purchasing and Supply Chain Management at Florida State University. He has published more than 60 articles in various academic journals. James L. Patterson, Ph.D., C.P.M., A.P.P., is Assistant Dean and Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management in the College of Business and Technology at Western Illinois University - Quad Cities. A Michigan State University Ph.D. alumnus in SCM, he holds lifetime C.P.M. and A.P.P. credentials from the Institute for Supply Management. He also serves as President of the Quad-City Foreign Trade Zone #133 and has twice been honored as Outstanding Teacher of the Year for WIU's CBT and four times in WHO'S WHO AMONG AMERICA'S TEACHERS. He is a long-standing reviewer for the JOURNAL OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT. Dr. Patterson's research interests include supply chain risk management, supply chain fraud, buyer-supplier relationships, negotiation and conflict resolution, and sourcing strategy.

Great reference work

If you want one book explaining state-of-the-art thinking in procurement, this is the one. It has chapters on every important topic. It's not a book I would choose to read from beginning to end to learn about purchasing (unless I were a University student) but it's a good starting point for looking deeper into many topics.

The book is very redundant and has numerous grammar errors. The same material could have been delivered with 60% less pages. This is quite a disappointment considering it's a 5th edition textbook.

After carefully reviewing the text, it has become apparent to me that this is going to be my go to volume reference for the remainder of my career. It is both comprehensive and relevant, and an indispensable tool for today's senior professional in supply chain management. 5 stars.

Paranoia Guide Book

At least that's what it looks like at a glance. Read cover to cover it doesn't make much sense, but that's because, like the title says, it's a briefing paper, containing a collection of BRIEF articles on a variety of subjects. These articles, to a casual observer, and at a glance, appear to be a little nutso/paranoid/loopy - that sort of thing. But stop and take a while to stew on what Richard says, look at the world around you, and something scary starts to happen: his articles start to make sense. In fact they don't STOP making sense.

I loved this book. It is a great summary of a lot of related subjects of what is REALLY going on in this world. I wish it had better coverage and distribution. It is definitely a MUST READ, even if what he says seems a little hard to believe at first. Science and history are full of truths that were initially hard to swallow, but which are established and accepted facts today. This is one of those books.

Not So Much

Sauder previously presented a reasoned and well-written presentation of some out-there ideas in his book on underground bases and tunnels. The Briefing, however, is just that: brief. And not so coherent. This title is more like a book outline and needs some serious fleshing out. He may be right, but this effort does not convince.

Absolutely incredible!

I bought this on a whim to satiate a lifelong love of the Gradius franchise, but was amazed how much content, facts, and research went into this book. I bought the kindle copy, but will be upgrading to a physical copy immediately!

If you love SHMUPs, Konami, Gradius (and more), video games - you should definitely pick this up.

A Deep Dive Into Konami Shooters

I purchased this book for deeper knowledge about the tangled mess that is the Gradius and Lifeforce home video game ports, and learned far more about Konami shooters than I ever expected. The Unofficial Guide to Konami Shooters packs history and gameplay descriptions into a very solid book that boasts tons of screenshots. My only gripe? I caught approximately 3-4 typos that probably would've been caught with one more proofread.

A great book for any Konami, shmups, and classic games. Good to see games like Axelay get the recognition it deserves. The book is exhaustively researched.

Best reference for mgmt system implementation I've found

I have used this book as support for implementing management systems in several plants in a global company as well as at the business enterprise (multiple plants plus leadership and supporting processes) level. The concepts and diagrams are presented in a simple, effective manner, particularly discussion of the Process Approach, Alignment Methodology, and tools such as the Process List, BMS Control Plan, etc. I've purchased multiple copies and handed out to local management system implementers as reference. Tremendously useful. Have also used Chad's company several times for consulting and training. Chad throroughly knows what he's talking about and makes it understandable and practical, and all about making business sense.

Great Veterinary clinical labs book

This book is irreplaceable when it comes to deciphering what lab work would look like for particular disease processes. I have found it to be very useful, very! I could only wish that the authors would come out with a new edition, and do an electronic copy as well, so I could have it on the go.

Martin Shirran and his wife Marion, trained clinical hypnotherapists, pull no punches. Their belief in their Gastric mind Band therapy is absolute and absolutely passionate, and this extends to their belief in their first book. Martin, an ex marketing and PR man, is a gregarious, persuasive individual whose written style reflects this. His natural ability to 'sell' his beliefs about obesity and the GmB therapy shines through in person and on the page. Marion, a former teacher, has done much of the backroom development and fine-tuning of the various techniques involved, and her thoughts on the subject are equally clear and articulate. They both prefer to talk straight to the reader just as if you were in the therapy suite with them. It's a bit like tough love. Tough love that they've put to the test first hand . . . . when they started developing the therapy Martin was a hefty 264 lb and Marion a seemingly effortlessly slim 124lb. They worked sometimes 24/7 much of the time for two years testing, tweaking and developing their therapy . . . . Martin now weighs in 57lb lighter and Marion's understanding of her relationship with food has played a key part in how they approach 'The Hunger Question' She, naturally, has remained within a few pounds, the same weight throughout. Best "diet" book I've ever read...

Well, I was skeptical. I really, really like this book, though. I wish they would come out with a hypnosis companion CD to go with it. The book is a combination of self-hypnosis, visualization, CBT techniques, and straight talk about how you've gotten into this weight mess to begin with and what it will take to pull yourself out. I've done the calorie restriction diets (WW, etc), the "good food" diets (McDougall, Fuhrman, etc.), the "eat when you're hungry plans (Roth, May, etc.), and although I had success with all for a limited time, none of them every clicked 100% with me like this book did. Maybe I just read it at the right time, but it is working. I've lost 6 pounds in 22 days, which is just under 2 pounds per week and makes me happy. The really cool part is that I'm just eating without points or calories or charts or lists or diagrams or anything else that I just couldn't keep up in the long run. This book will not do it for you, but it will give you advice and motivation that will help you do it yourself.

I read other reviews prior to purchasing and noted that it is written in Queen's English, however, most anyone can understand it. The most important thing is that this book stresses that the Gastric Mind Band is not a quick fix and that there are several other sessions, even other therapies used in the whole process, that it is in essence a process and not a magical session. Everything is explained and although, I'm not sure a novice would be able to cure themselves, it is very informative for the person that has a lot of weight to drop and provides some guided introspection. Being a professional that has dealt with clients that have had these type of issues the book is very thorough and a complete guide to be able to help your clientele. I personally, have a background in fitness training and nutritional counseling AND I live in the most obese part of the country. I am very excited to be able to offer this to my clients.

Money no object, I would prefer this to a course given by someone else that most likely also read the book and is teaching their perspective (second only to being able to get a live course from the Shirrans' themselves.) It was very important to me from a professional standpoint, to learn from the actual "inventors" of the method and not a spin-off.

Very interesting concept of treatment of obesity..I am not sure I understand why this is far more popular in Europe than US where obesity is epidemic...
